Brad is one of those people who experienced a life altering experience at a young age. From early on, Brad loved sports. He played baseball, football, and basketball, proving to be a well-rounded, talented athlete. However, during his fifteenth year while playing in a high school baseball game, Brad slid into home plate headfirst and, subsequently, severed his spinal cord. Needless to say, life was never again the same for Brad.
During the next few years, Brad was in and out of hospitals. As a C3 quadriplegic, he was trached and placed on a ventilator. Since that precarious moment, Brad has had to adjust, if that is ever fully possible, to a world that was previously unthinkable being paralyzed, confined to a wheelchair, dependent on life-support machinery, and living with home care nurses. Fortunately, his father, mother, and two sisters live close by. His family and friends have proven to be a solid foundation for support.
The next few years were busy for Brad. Besides adjusting to his new lifestyle, Brad graduated from high school (on time, no less) and then studied journalism, psychology, and business at a variety of local colleges. In his spare time, Brad worked with an architect designing his own house in Auburn. Brad spends time gardening, learning the art of cooking, and enjoying sports events. Brad has always loved music, especially rock and Christian. Becoming a Christian a few years ago has been one of the most significant experiences in his life.
Brad is a special person at New Care. We thank him for allowing us to be part of his life.
