Family Responsibilities
New Care believes that your family is the primary caregiver and that our role is to support your loved one with professional nursing services. In order to mutually and more clearly define the respectful roles of the clients, families, and nursing staff, your participation and responsibilities include:
- Supply the primary caregiving to the client.
- Learn the treatments, medications, and all aspects of the care provided to the client.
- Be respectful and courteous to the nurses in the home.
- Learn the function, troubleshooting, and correct emergency responses for all client equipment.
- Be mutually responsible with the nursing staff to communicate concerns to the physician and other care providers.
- Communicate staffing concerns of any kind to the New Care Office, if appropriate.
- Prepare client's meals, provide suitable foods, and work with nurses to feed the client.
- Purchase and maintain client's clothing.
- Assist the client with school work.
- Provide companionship, identify play activities, and find social outlets. Nursing staff will provide support to these activities.
- Provide client transportation, bathe/groom client, and schedule client's appointments.
- Be responsible for full domestic house cleaning which includes laundry, dishwashing, vacuuming, dusting, and other non-client related chores.
- Run client related and/or family errands such as dropping off lab work, picking up medications at the pharmacy, etc.
- Provide babysitting arrangements for any other children in the home.
- Clean soiled linens.
- Participate in the selection of staff assigned to your home under the hiring guidelines of New Care.
- Be responsible for any billing outside the scope of New Care's billing duties for nursing services and the family.
- Provide care for client when New Care is not able to find alternate coverage for nurses who may be sick or have other emergencies that may take him/her away from the job. New Care is committed to assigning only properly trained and oriented nurses to each client; so there will be times when New Care has a lapse in complete coverage.
If New Care's values are consistent with your own, call now to discuss your options.
